Joining the ACCP-CAID is a two step process:
- Submit an Application form and documents as required for review. Specific information about the portfolio is available below.

Pay a $50 non-refundable application and assessment fee.
There are two pathways to become a member, each involving a different evaluation process:
- Training option: this method consists of submitting to ACCP-CAID the proofs of formal training that demonstrate that you have acquired the necessary competencies outlined in the ACCP-CAID’s Instructional Design Competencies document.
- Work experience option: this method consists of requesting to the Institute for Performance and Learning (I4PL) for an assessment and recognition of acquired skills, recognized by ACCP-CAID. I4PL is a Canadian organization known formerly under the name of Canadian Society for Training and Development – CSTD.
Once ACCP-CAID has received all the required elements and verified their conformity according to the chosen membership option, we will invite you to complete your membership application by paying the annual fee.
Conditions of Membership
To be eligible for certification, candidates must:
a) hold a graduate degree from a Canadian university in Educational Technology or a combination of Canadian training recognized by the Association. Equivalent foreign degrees or training may also be recognized;
Or
b) be able to demonstrate that they have acquired the skills in educational design set out in the ACCP-CAID’s Instructional Design Competencies document (Training option).
Or
c) be accepted as a member upon successful completion of the dossier-based accreditation process [Work Experience Option], as determined by the Board.
AND
d) have been working in the field of instructional design in the five years preceding membership.
e) have participated in at least one professional development activity (e.g., symposiums, conferences, specialized workshops, certificates, university courses, etc.) related to one or more of the competencies listed in the ACCP-CAID’s Instructional Design Competencies document in the year prior to joining the Association and continue participating in such activities every subsequent year.
f) have paid their annual dues.

Assessment of Applications
Upon receiving your membership application and your payment of $50, the CAID assessment committee will review your file.
The application fee will not be refunded if your application is denied.
If required, checks may be made with the institutions indicated in your application. Response times may vary depending on the length of enquiries and checks to be performed.
Membership Dues
Annual Dues
Dues are payable by January 1 of each year.
Dues for 2026
The annual membership dues for 2026 have been set at $110. The fee for a retired member is 50% of the annual membership fee.
The membership fee for a new member who graduated from university the year before joining is $0 for the year of joining.
Renewals
Dues must be paid annually. To renew your membership, simply fill out the form and mail it to the Association with your payment. You must also provide the documents listed in section “f” and, if necessary, section “e” of Article 5.2 of the By Laws (see “Conditions of Membership”).
