From a Blank Page to an E-Learning Prototype: Generative AI as a Design Assistant

Launching an online training project is often a major challenge: where to start, how to structure it, and what resources to use? This training offers a practical approach to integrating generative AI into the first three phases of the ADDIE model: analysis, design, and development. Far from replacing professional expertise, AI acts as an assistant that speeds up work and stimulates creativity.

Through live demonstrations, a comprehensive process will be presented: creating a dedicated project space within a chatbot like Claude by providing it with instructions, skills, and source content; conducting brainstorming sessions to define the training structure; devising characters, placing them in meaningful scenarios, and articulating it all into actionable instructional scenarios. Special attention will be given to the production of multimedia resources: generating custom images and illustrations, creating professional-quality audio narrations, and producing short video clips—all without requiring advanced technical skills. The limitations of these tools and the need for critical judgment will also be discussed.

PRESENTER:

Hamid Saffari

Hamid Saffari is an educational scientist and an educational technology consultant at the Université du Québec en Outaouais (UQO). With over ten years of experience in education, he is also an adjunct professor of educational technology at several Canadian universities. As a continuing education instructor, he collaborates with various organizations to lead training sessions on the benefits and challenges of generative artificial intelligence in professional contexts. Far from taking an activist stance, he favors “constructive skepticism” toward AI: an approach that involves questioning its uses and acknowledging its limitations and risks, without rejecting it outright or succumbing to sweeping generalizations. Passionate about staying abreast of new developments and experimentation, he is constantly exploring new AI tools, particularly for the design of online courses.
