JOB DESCRIPTION

Duties:

  • Develops competency profile charts, course/program profiles or outlines, curricula, training modules, and other training materials from information gathered from clients through a formal needs assessment process. Provides formal needs assessment services for the organisation.
  • Designs instructional packages or training modules; determines specific learning tasks, sub tasks and content; writes and sequences performance objectives and develops performance measures following adult education principles; integrates delivery techniques to enhance class-room based, e-learning and other instructional delivery methods.
  • Applies current adult education concepts and learning approaches to curriculum projects such as: experiential teaching techniques, accelerated learning principles, interactive delivery methods and variations in the presentation of material.
  • Demonstrates effective learning materials presentations skills such as: creative training materials and delivery tools, adult/accelerated learning techniques, synchronous and asynchronous e-classroom, and other delivery tools.
  • Develops and establishes standardized curricula format and templates for course material and facilitators guide. Provides expertise in adapting current curricula to alternative delivery channels such as: e-learning systems, distance education, self study packages etc.
  • Conducts research on trends in learning and development methodologies; updates, revises and integrates changes to curricula and learning methods and techniques.
  • Prepares, maintains and updates training and instructional website.
  • Designs and develops instructional materials and technical documentation for large complex systems.
  • Liaises and works with Subject Matter Experts (SME) to: identify objectives, gather material, structure effective lessons and develop assessment tools appropriate for technical and trade audiences; writes, revises and edits training, work process and procedure documents from information provided by SME’s. Analyzes material for: logic, completeness, focus, clarity, grammar, spelling and punctuation. Consults with SME’s and Technical Trades Trainers to ensure accuracy and relevance of content to training; works with and facilities design teams and ensures timely development of training modules
  • Performs minor duties related to the above duties that do not affect the rating of the job.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor level university degree program in Education, English, Science or a related field; plus four (4) years of experience in an adult training design and development role where experience in training needs assessment methods, instructional material and package development, interactive delivery methods, instructional evaluation assessment and evaluation methods, project management, research methods has been gained.
  • OR Certificate/Diploma in Instructional Design and/or curriculum development (such as Certificate in Adult & Continuing Education (CACE) or the BC Provincial Instructor Diploma) or a related program; plus six (6) years of experience in an adult training design and development role where experience in training needs assessment methods, instructional material and package development, interactive delivery methods, instructional evaluation assessment and evaluation methods, project management, research methods has been gained.
  • Experience designing and developing trades, technical, safety related training or eLearning are considered assets.
  • Experience using eLearning course authoring tools (such as Articulate Storyline) is considered an asset.

  • Please note this is a Full-Time Temporary (FTT) opportunity with BC Hydro for approximately one (1) year. Located at the Trades Training Centre (TTC) in Surrey, BC.

The Canadian Red Cross Society, a not for profit, humanitarian organization dedicated to helping the most vulnerable in Canada and throughout the world, is currently seeking a Professional Instructional Designer within the Learning and Development team and the larger People Services team.

As part of a dynamic Learning and Development team and reporting to the Senior Manager, Learning and Development (L&D), the Instructional Designer will analyze the learning needs, design, develop and evaluate the learning solutions for voluntary technical experts (a.k.a “delegates”) and CRC staff supporting multilateral Red Cross Movement operations. The Instructional Designer will work closely with the International Operation Readiness Team (IO Training Hub. The goal is to facilitate learners in acquiring knowledge, skills and competencies in an effective and appealing manner.

Responsibilities:
Lead the ADDIE process for the training of CRC personnel and delegates deploying in response to global emergencies (80%)

  • Leads meetings with the IO Readiness project team to outline the objectives of for a course or curriculum, defining the best course medium, assessments, accompanying materials, and complementary learning approaches according to the client needs;
  • Establishes strong relationship with subject matter experts and course sponsors to be able to properly collect their feedback and integrate it into the course design document;
  • Completes detailed training needs analysis, then tasks analysis of the cohort targeted for the training;
  • Defines measurable and observable learning objectives and determines the ideal interactivity during the session in order to meet the objectives and motivate the participants;
  • Creates engaging learning activities and compelling course content that enhances retention and transfer of knowledge;
  • Applies appropriate integration of instructional technologies and best practices in all learning tools that will appeal to a wide variety of audiences;
  • Understands and applies the adult learning principles to all learning solutions, including emerging technologies in the delivery of distance learning solutions, such as webinars, instructor-led online courses, virtual classrooms
  • Develops comprehensive, production-ready learning materials, including PowerPoint presentations, Facilitator Manuals and Participant Guides using the L&D templates, job aids, supporting material/media (audio, video, simulations, role plays, games, etc.);
  • Designs quizzes and meaningful course interactions to increase learning and retention;
  • Develops assessment tools to evaluate the learning solutions based on the Kirkpatrick Model;
  • Reviews end of course evaluations from the field and make appropriate adjustments to the content and/or the delivery methodology.
  • Occasionally assists in production (graphic design, animations, audio recording/importing and editing);
  • Organizes with IO training coordinator and attends pilot sessions to validate the content, the methodology, the level of learning and make the appropriate changes;
  • Facilitates meetings and workshops with subject matter experts and conducts debriefings with participants after a pilot session;
  • Manages projects efficiently so that work is completed on time, problems are anticipated, and solutions provided, communicate timely with the Sr Manager L&D if deliverables will be delayed
Information Management, administrative support (20%)
  • Maintains effective tracking of training materials and tools within CRC systems
  • Ensures sharing and dissemination of programme related materials to all concerned actors in the team and with the Canadian Red Cross Society
  • Contributes to reporting as per project team requirements
Qualifications:

Education & Experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree in instructional design, instructional technology or related field
  • Formal training in instructional design and application of adult learning principles.
  • Minimum of 3 years of job-related work experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience in the field of corporate training and/or adult education is a strong asset.
  • Experience working within a project management environment is an asset
Knowledge and Skills
  • Strong knowledge of and experience with Microsoft Office suite, SharePoint, Photoshop, Adobe Connect, ZOOM, Storyline, Captivate, Moodle/LMS software environments.
  • Knowledge and experience in the application of the ADDIE, Bloom and Kirkpatrick Model.

The College of Early Childhood Educators (the College) regulates the more than 53,000 members of the early childhood education profession in the public interest, pursuant to the Early Childhood Educators Act, 2007. The College issues Certificates of Registration, has established a Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice for the profession, and responds to concerns about members through a complaints and discipline process. The College is a not-for-profit organization with a staff of 65 and an annual operating budget of approximately $10M. We are seeking an analytical, collaborative critical thinker experienced in leading the review and development of post-secondary program assessment standards.

Reporting to the Manager, Registration, the key areas of responsibility are to:

  • Develop policies, standards, guidelines and tools related to the approval of education programs;
  • Lead the assessment of institutional applications for educational program approval as well as the monitoring and auditing of existing programs;
  • Develop, implement and evaluate new and/or alternate approaches to assessing individual applications for registration based on current research and best practices;
  • Review and make recommendations on individual applicant/member education plans in light of the College’s current registration requirements;
  • Act as the primary liaison with post-secondary institutions for the approval of education programs;
  • Develop project charters and work plans to guide and monitor implementation of related projects;
  • Support the preparation and coordination of a variety of statistical and policy reports; and
  • Prepare and present information to colleagues, committee members and Council.
Qualifications
  • Minimum of 3-5 years’ demonstrated experience conducting Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition (PLAR) or credential assessments in a post-secondary environment.
  • Demonstrated experience leading policy and program development and evaluation projects and initiatives.
  • Demonstrated experience working with approval, certification or accreditation programs.
  • Demonstrated understanding of post-secondary education systems as well as early learning care and professional regulatory sectors in Ontario.
  • Working knowledge of the current Ontario College of Applied Arts and Technology (OCAAT) program standards for early childhood education.
  • Ability to understand and apply the principles of related legislation, regulations and policies, including the Early Childhood Educators Act, 2007 and the Child Care and Early Years Act, 2014.
  • Research, analytical, critical thinking and decision-making skills to review, assess and provide recommendations related to the approval of education programs and individual education plans.
  • Relationship-management skills to build trust and foster and maintain collaborative, supportive relationships.

Relevant de la Vice-Présidence services-conseils, le concepteur pédagogique et conseiller en formation intervient dans des mandats en clientèle. Il est appelé à concevoir des cours avec les outils de e-learning, en étroite collaboration avec des experts de contenu, destinés à des contextes de diffusion variés (coaching, classe traditionnelle, formation en ligne synchrone ou asynchrone, etc.).

Principales activités dans les mandats en clientèle :

  • Analyser les besoins de formation des clients et avoir un bon esprit de synthèse;
  • Déterminer les objectifs d’apprentissage et être en mesure de participer au processus d’idéation;

The incumbent will be expected to maintain and build positive relationships with ARPA staff, members and partners. This position would report directly to the Chief Executive Officer and would work closely with several of ARPA’s program staff. This position would preferably be based in ARPA’s Edmonton office.

The eLearning Specialist designs, develops, implements, and administers learning strategies and education and professional development programs in conjunction with our subject matter experts. The position will have a key role in the development and evolution of the Canadian Parks and Recreation “Parks and Recreation Professional” designation and to that end ensures training programs are compliant and meet legislative, quality, and service contract guidelines as required. Duties and Responsibilities:

The incumbent will be capable of and responsible for the following:

  • identify education and professional development needs and opportunities based on the 19 sector competencies, the Framework for Recreation in Canada 2015 - Pathways to Wellbeing, Parks for All and the Common Vision.
  • identify and manage an online platform to deliver education and professional development materials.
  • ensure the development of interactive and engaging curriculum modules.
  • identify and develop an ongoing course delivery schedule and calendar.
  • identify, develop and/or collaborate on funding and partnership proposals for course development.
  • manage course projects and provide reporting as required by funders.
  • identify strategic partnerships opportunities to develop and /or deliver eLearning opportunities.
  • strengthen partnerships and ARPA ‘s reputation for education and professional development courses.
  • identify marketing and communications strategies for professional development courses.
  • represent the Association on internal and external committees as required.
  • recruit and support instructors and presenters for courses, as required.

Qualifications:

  • Certified Training & Development Professional (CTDP), or in process, an asset.
  • Demonstrated competency in developing instructional material in various online formats.

Basic Purpose:

Duties:

  • Develops competency profile charts, course/program profiles or outlines, curricula, training modules, and other training materials from information gathered from clients through a formal needs assessment process. Provides formal needs assessment services for the organisation.
  • Designs instructional packages or training modules; determines specific learning tasks, sub tasks and content; writes and sequences performance objectives and develops performance measures following adult education principles; integrates delivery techniques to enhance class-room based, e-learning and other instructional delivery methods.
  • Applies current adult education concepts and learning approaches to curriculum projects such as: experiential teaching techniques, accelerated learning principles, interactive delivery methods and variations in the presentation of material.
  • Demonstrates effective learning materials presentations skills such as: creative training materials and delivery tools, adult/accelerated learning techniques, synchronous and asynchronous e-classroom, and other delivery tools.
  • Develops and establishes standardized curricula format and templates for course material and facilitators guide. Provides expertise in adapting current curricula to alternative delivery channels such as: e-learning systems, distance education, self study packages etc.
  • Conducts research on trends in learning and development methodologies; updates, revises and integrates changes to curricula and learning methods and techniques.
  • Prepares, maintains and updates training and instructional website.
  • Designs and develops instructional materials and technical documentation for large complex systems.
  • Liaises and works with Subject Matter Experts (SME) to: identify objectives, gather material, structure effective lessons and develop assessment tools appropriate for technical and trade audiences; writes, revises and edits training, work process and procedure documents from information provided by SME’s. Analyzes material for: logic, completeness, focus, clarity, grammar, spelling and punctuation. Consults with SME’s and Technical Trades Trainers to ensure accuracy and relevance of content to training; works with and facilities design teams and ensures timely development of training modules

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor level university degree program in Education, English, Science or a related field; plus four (4) years of experience in an adult training design and development role where experience in training needs assessment methods, instructional material and package development, interactive delivery methods, instructional evaluation assessment and evaluation methods, project management, research methods has been gained.
OR

Principales responsabilités

  • Participer aux rencontres avec les clients, les experts et les membres de l’équipe du GTA;

Responsibilities

This is a full-time, two-year temporary position scheduled to end in March 2021.
Reporting to the Superintendent Operations Training, the Training Specialist will design and build training content and materials using best practices in adult and engaged learning principles to support the development of competent, innovative and high performing employees. Relevant du directeur, design et production, le concepteur, développement et apprentissage, assure la création des parcours visant le changement de comportements ciblés pour une grande variété de profils d’apprenants. Il conçoit le contenu à l'aide d'une stratégie de diffusion adaptée aux besoins de l'apprenant dans le but de transformer ses comportements. En ce sens, il guide la mise en production des parcours conçus en assurant le respect du design qu’il a imaginé en plus d’assurer la mesure des retombées des parcours développés pour les apprenants et les clients.

Principales responsabilités

  • Contribue à l’analyse du défi à résoudre du client en collaboration avec les experts contenus (SME) assignés au projet;
  • Propose une stratégie et un design de parcours de développement créatifs et efficaces permettant aux apprenants d’adopter les comportements souhaités en utilisant le plein potentiel de la plateforme technologique de pointe développée à l’interne;
  • Recherche et réalise la curation efficace de contenu externe, interne et client;
  • Contribue à la rédaction des contenus nécessaires à la production des parcours (narration, questions, auto-évaluation, aide à la tâche, scénario vidéo, contenu pour animation, etc.);
  • Collabore avec le chargé de projet à la transition du projet vers l’équipe de production des parcours et est gardien(ne) du respect du design imaginé en court de production;

Profil recherché
  • Formation académique de niveau universitaire pertinente : formation, développement organisationnel, ressources humaines, pédagogie, andragogie, etc.;
  • Posséder un minimum de sept (7) ans d’expérience dans l’exercice de fonctions similaires;
    • Avoir conçu des parcours de formation auprès d’une clientèle adulte
    • Avoir mis en application les principes de microapprentissage et ludification « Gamification » dans un contexte d’entreprise

Contexte

The Justice Education Society of BC (JES) is a non–profit organization with over 25 years of experience providing public legal education and justice system capacity building in Canada and overseas. In Canada, the Society helps more than 700,000 British Columbians learn about our justice system and address their legal issues. Internationally, JES has programs in Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Panama and Guyana which work with national institutions to strengthen justice systems, access to justice and citizen security. The Position
JES has an immediate opening for a Specialist to serve as a technical advisor to JES in its overseas development projects. The position will be based in Vancouver, B.C., but may require travel from time to time to Central America or other regions where JES may work in future. The Education Specialist-Instructional Designer will report to the JES International Program Director in Vancouver.

Role
JES delivers training to a wide range of justice system personnel and civil society actors in its countries of operation. JES’s main training methodology is “Problem Based Learning” (PBL). PBL involves having adult learners approach a problem through a case study and propose solutions based on their own knowledge and experiences. The results are then used as the platform for expert intervention and knowledge development. In future, we anticipate that distance and online learning will be increasingly important in JES programs.

Supported by a Curriculum Development Specialist, the Education Specialist-Instructional Designer will be responsible for ensuring that JES’s training methodologies continue to develop in line with best practices for adult learning, and supporting JES subject matter experts to use these methodologies effectively.

Key Areas of Responsibility

  • Prepare orientation and training materials for JES subject matter experts and project personnel to incorporate and standardize methods and best practices in adult learning.
  • Assist in the preparation of new project proposals to ensure that best practices are incorporated and adequately budgeted.
  • Develop tailored guidance documents for projects as required.
  • Work with JES subject matter experts to develop curricula and training programs incorporating best practices and coach/mentor trainers where necessary.
  • Support transmission and development of excellent training skills to local personnel who are chosen to participate in JES “train the trainer” programs under JES projects.
  • Coordinate strategic research and analysis on adult education, technology in education and distance learning developments relevant to JES work.
  • Ensure that training programs include adequate pre and post training evaluation (including topic specific needs assessments for training programs).
  • Support program monitoring, evaluation, learning and reporting where appropriate.

Duties

The Instructional Designer reports to the Director, Curriculum Development and Delivery. The Instructional Designer will assume responsibility for the development of Open Learning courses in a variety of subject areas and delivery modes. The Instructional Designer is responsible for the academic integrity of courses and leads course development teams composed of subject matter experts.

The instructional design of Open Learning courses includes liaising with the particular academic areas, hiring subject matter experts, and preparing contracts/agreements. It also includes developing instructional design plans; guiding the development of learning outcomes, course outlines, learning activities, and assessment instruments; monitoring, assessing, revising, and providing constructive feedback on the work of subject matter experts; and working with the media team and graphic artists (both internal and external) along with editorial and intellectual property staff. Skills required include the ability to implement sound instructional design principles, develop instruction to address specific learner profiles, manage multiple projects with their shifting priorities and timelines, write clear instructional material, provide coaching and training, attend to detail, and evaluate and make recommendations regarding instructional design in various modalities. The Instructional Designer is required to complete these projects to TRU-OL quality standards and within agreed upon timelines, budgets, and client specifications.

Qualifications

  • Related Master’s degree required; may include—but is not restricted to—Master’s degrees in education, curriculum and instruction, distributed learning, educational technology
  • 3-5 years’ demonstrated experience in curriculum design and development based on best practice, including developing instructional design plans and guiding the development of learning outcomes, course outlines, learning activities, and assessment instruments, as well as incorporating appropriate educational technologie
  • 3 years’ teaching or training experience, particularly with adult learners in a distance-delivery environment
  • Demonstrated team leadership experience

About the Position
Under the general direction of the Associate Vice-President, Open Learning, the Director, Curriculum Development and Delivery (the Director) will provide vision, leadership and operational direction for the creation and evaluation of promising practices and approaches to open learning (including open educational practices, learning design, and online teaching and learning). They will be responsible for the overall coordination of the curriculum portfolio, including new course and program development and the coordination of the curriculum renewal/revision process. They will provide academic leadership and support for Open Learning Faculty Members (OLFMs) in their pursuit of online teaching excellence and will support the development of promising practices through scholarly approaches and research. They will liaise with academic departments to coordinate and troubleshoot curriculum development plans. They will build on OL's expertise to help build institutional capacity for development of responsive curriculum for its students, e.g., OERs, Indigenization. The Director will participate in TRU governance as a member of the Open Learning Division senior leadership team and through participation and membership in the Teaching and Learning sub-committee of senate, the Educational Program Committee, and the Academic Planning and Priorities Committee. They will also work with external partners such as BC Campus, OERu, and others to help build recognition and credibility for open learning practices through national and international networks.

About Curriculum Development & Delivery
The curriculum development and delivery unit within open learning encompasses three key areas that work together to support the learning design, maintenance and delivery of Open Learning courses. The learning design team, reporting to the Chair of the Learning Design and Innovations department, is responsible for leading new course development and helping maintain and revise current courses. They provide expertise in learning design, online and distance pedagogies, and open educational practices while also supporting various initiatives related to curriculum design across the institution. The curriculum services team, led by the Associate Director, provides editing, copyright clearance, resource support and overall portfolio management of the curriculum lifecycle. This team works to maintain and build quality assurance and to meet intellectual property needs for the whole institution. Finally, the delivery support team is responsible for the effective delivery of all courses and encompasses OLFMs along with a team that provides needed supports. Reporting to the Associate Director, the Program Delivery team is responsible for the effective delivery of all courses in Open Learning. This delivery involves, but is not limited to, the recruitment and selection of OLFMs, providing delivery support to OLFMs, addressing student appeals, reviewing and processing academic integrity cases, resolving varied student and OLFM issues/conflicts, scheduling Open Learning courses, resolving issues related to Open Learning course materials, providing orientation and technical support for OLFMs, scheduling and administering all Open Learning final exams and organizing an annual OLFM workshop. The CD and D team works closely with Faculties and Schools, the Registrar's Office, IT, and other departments on campus to provide a flexible and quality learning experience for all OL students. The Director also collaborates closely with the Director of Innovation and the Director of the Centre for Excellence in Learning and Teaching to operationalize and implement educational technologies and their required supports.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

Leadership

  • Provides inclusive leadership and support to one academic department (Learning Design and Innovations) and two administrative units (Curriculum Development and Delivery).
  • Champions and integrates evidence-based and data-informed best practices in online teaching and learning, learning design and curriculum development in open and online distance education.
  • Supports a responsive approach to the delivery of distance, blended and online teaching and learning.
  • Contributes to the overall strategic direction and operation of Open Learning, through active participation in the Open Learning Leadership team and other campus wide committees and projects.
  • Advocates for the adoption of open educational resources and practices.
  • Supports the strategic priorities of the institution, including globalization and indigenization of curriculum and teaching practices.
Engagement
  • Works collegially with Instructional Designers, Open Learning Faculty Members (OLFMs), campus faculty and other subject matter experts including external contractors in the development, delivery and maintenance of open learning and blended courses and programs.
  • Proactively liaises with institutional stakeholders to develop course, program and project proposals that support the needs of Open Learning students and the TRU Academic Plan.
  • Supports the engagement of the OLFMs.
  • Fosters an engaging culture of learning, professional development, scholarly practice, research, dissemination of knowledge and continuous improvement.
  • Represents the Curriculum Development and Delivery department on committees, councils, boards, and external events locally, provincially and at large, and as appointed by the President, Provost or Associate Vice-President, Open Learning.

Purpose
Reporting to the Educational Technology Manager, Continuing Studies, the eLearning Developer assumes responsibility for development of engaging online learning content in a variety of subject areas and delivery modes. Working closely with the Continuing Studies Coordinators, the eLearning Developer leads course development project teams composed of subject matter experts and other team members assigned.

Responsibilities
The eLearning Developer needs to have the ability to implement sound instructional design principles, utilizing various learning mediums to develop courses from raw content, manage multiple projects with their shifting priorities and timelines, write clear instructional materials, provide coaching and training, attend to detail, and evaluate and make recommendations regarding instructional design in various modalities. The eLearning Developer is required to complete projects to UNBC quality standards and within agreed upon timelines, budgets, and client specifications.

Specific duties will include a broad range of functions that meet the current and evolving needs of the Continuing Studies Department:

  • Guiding development of learning outcomes, course outlines, learning activities and assessment etc.;
  • Creating wireframes, storyboards, user flows, learning flows based on raw course materials to effectively communicate interaction and design ideas;
  • Applying instructional design best practices and methodologies including ADDIE, SAM and Agile to design, develop, and continuously improve immersive online courses and web applications independently or by leading a project team from ideation to evaluation;
  • Developing digital learning products that are engaging and creative while maintaining the instructional integrity and validity of the solutions;
  • Creating and working with design templates and continuously improving UI design to meet technical specifications and the evolving e-learning design tendency;
  • Troubleshooting technical design issues within SCORMs and other learning applications;
  • Collaborating with stakeholders, contractors, clients and team members in planning, developing and maintaining online learning courses;
  • Conducting design analysis, scope project outcomes and analyzing expectations of the target audiences;
  • Managing online learning development projects, such as creating timelines for deliverables, reporting project status etc.;
  • Assessing, revising, and providing constructive feedback on the work of subject matter experts;
  • Conducting needs analyses to identify learning needs and objectives;

Qualifications

The successful candidate will possess the following:
  • Related Master’s degree required in distributed learning or e-learning, educational technology, or computer science;
  • 5 years’ demonstrated experience incorporating appropriate educational technologies into online course design and development based on best practices;
  • Solid understanding of software/course development lifecycles;
  • Significant experience with SCORM and xAPI’s within an LMS;
  • Administrative experience with Desire2Learn would be considered an asset;
  • Comfort and ability in working with highly technical concepts, terms and architectures;
  • Highly proficient with web design technologies such as JavaScript, HTML, HTML5, CSS, XML, Python, ASP, PHP, etc., and relational database tools such as MySQL, SQLite;
  • Advanced knowledge and experience of authoring and creative tools, such as Articulate, Captivate, Camtasia, Dreamweaver, Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere etc.;
  • Proven experience with videography, photography, post-production and graphic design;
  • Strong knowledge of web accessibility principles and practices, and the implications for course design and development;
  • Demonstrated team leadership experience;
  • Strong project management skills are essential; PMP an asset;
  • Experience designing applications for Android and iOS an asset.

Salary
This position has been classified at a Grade 12. The annual salary range for this position is $66,137.91 - $68,882.77, and the normal starting salary will be $66,137.91. Normal hours of work will be between 8:30am – 4:30pm Monday through Friday.

Reporting to the Manager, Engineering Teaching and Learning Team, the Instructional Designer works closely with instructors to design online and blended courses to support active learning by applying best online instructional practices and learning technologies. The incumbent is responsible for implementing guidelines and setting standards for the structure and overall quality of online course materials. The incumbent is also responsible for coordinating the development and implementation of a wide range of online courses and associated components by reviewing and assessing courses, as well as ensuring that online courses are developed using sound design and development practices.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities:
  • Work with instructors as a resource to outline a course development plan and implementation timeline.
  • Provide training and support regarding teaching strategies, learning activities, assessments, and the integration of appropriate learning technologies.
  • Act as the project manager for online/blended course development to ensure timelines are met.
  • Develop, or assist with, instructional workshops for instructors addressing best practices and identifying research in support of teaching and learning online.
  • Provide work direction, guidance and expertise to the course production team when building the components of a course, and implementing learning activities/tasks, building assessments and developing digital content from source materials in appropriate media format.
  • Provide advice on how to improve accessibly in courses, and ensure courses are compliant with relevant legislation (e.g. Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act).
  • Liaise with copyright librarian to identify appropriate digital resources for instructors to consider in their course, ensure copyright permissions are secured, and document the use of copyright items.

Required Qualifications:

The Opportunity:

Digital Education Strategies is looking for a passionate and knowledgeable Instructional Designer to be part of an award-winning, highly motivated team. This position is responsible for collaborating with faculty and subject matter experts (SMEs) in the development of online courses and learning materials that are engaging and follow a multimodal approach i.e. incorporate written text, audio, video and multimedia tools. Nature of Work

The Position
Reporting to the Director of Operations and working with other employees, the Education Program Manager will be responsible for all details surrounding the development and operation of Passive House Canada’s education program. More specifically, you will oversee a national professional education program targeted to adult learners in the high-performance construction industry, focusing on architects, designers, technologists, engineers, builders, developers, government officials and others.

Knowledge of the Passive House Standard is not required but an interest in sustainable building and a passion for a greener future is necessary!

Ideally, this position will be based in Victoria, but we will consider candidates who would work Vancouver. Only one person will be hired.

Curriculum design and planning:

  • Use the ADDIE model (or equivalent) to develop new program offerings and improve existing ones
  • Consult with Education Committee to improve the education program content
  • Liaise with industry and government contacts to maintain awareness of key topics in the highperformance building industry
  • Identify and oversee suitable subject matter experts to participate in the ongoing review and updating of the education program content
  • In collaboration with the volunteer Education Committee, continually assess learning needs and opportunities for members
  • Lead the evaluation and development of online learning options
Education program management:
  • Develop the education program calendar on a quarterly or semi-annual basis (which courses are offered when, where, instructed by whom, etc.)
  • Use the CRM application to manage and participants courses on the website
  • Liaise with learners to promote the program and answer enquiries
  • Liaise with international organizations to ensure the program adheres to specific learning standards, outcomes and certifications
  • Work with the Manager of Communications and Member Services to ensure the education program is marketed and promoted adequately
  • Network with industry professionals and government representatives to identify potential new partnerships as well as qualified subject matter experts
  • Liaise with Canadian professional associations for collaboration and accreditation
  • Manage and foster relationships with related international organizations Respond to inquiries related to the education program as needed
Outreach:
  • Reach out to architectural and engineering firms, as well as municipalities to generate awareness of our private, customized course offerings
  • Respond to requests for private course offerings by preparing proposals that outline learning outcomes, fees and timelines
  • Reach out to academic institutions to explore opportunities for partnerships that will facilitate wider spread adoption of high performance building principles
  • Research grants and other funding opportunities to offer existing or new courses that will help drive market transformation of the building industry
Job requirements and qualifications:
  • Undergraduate degree in educational or instructional technology, instructional design, curricula and instruction, adult education or related field (Master’s degree preferred)
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in instructional design, educational technology, training, pedagogy, or curriculum development with a particular emphasis on developing instructor-led training programs
  • Experience applying the ADDIE model or equivalent in instructional design
  • Significant experience using e-learning technologies, learning and knowledge management systems, networks, communities of practices
  • A background in architecture and/or construction experience would be an asset
  • Must be comfortable in a fast pace, deadline-driven environment and able to manage multiple priorities well

The Opportunity:

The Instructional Designer reports to the Director, Curriculum Development and Delivery. The Instructional Designer will assume responsibility for the development of Open Learning courses in a variety of subject areas and delivery modes. Position Summary:

Under the supervision of Drs. Packer & Ghahari, the instructional designer will be responsible for the translation of a face to face intervention to an online intervention, conducing a pilot test of the intervention, designing and deploying an online training program for therapists, and providing ongoing technical and pedagogical advice and support throughout the study. The instructional designer will use established instructional design principles and strategies, adult learning theory, and current best practices in online learning. 

Requirements:
  • Working collaboratively with researchers and occupational therapists, translate the content and delivery of an established seven-week, face-to-face group intervention for people with fatigue into an appealing, learner-centred, online intervention program.
  • Using the selected LMS, apply best practices in online learning to the design of all intervention content, including the redesign of learning activities typically delivered in a group format, and notifications to users and to occupational therapists involved in the program.
  • Create visually attractive and appealing, internet-based interface, paying particular attention to accessibility needs of the users (people living with neurological conditions).
  • Ensure "back-end" data is collected, compiled and exportable in a format that can be analyzed by researchers.
  • Assess appeal, usability, clinical utility and accessibility of the site from the perspective of both participants and therapists and produce analytics such as hit rate, bounce rate etc.
  • Work with colleagues to troubleshoot and solve course design and delivery problems with a focus on the use of educational technologies.

Qualifications:

Master's degree in education with focus on instructional design or educational technology (or equivalent) is essential. Minimum Qualifications & Experience:

  • Post-secondary degree in Adult Education or Instructional Design, CTDP designation, or an equivalent combination of education and training experience
  • Demonstrated expertise in effective Instructional Design methodologies
  • 3+ years of instructional design experience focused on digital (i.e. eLearning, webinars, interactive PDFs, videos, etc.) and blended learning.
  • 3+ years of experience in adult education, training/development or academic teaching required.
  • 3+ years of experience in design and development of written training materials, manuals, guide books, job aids, etc.
  • Proficiency in eLearning authoring tools (Articulate 360), Responsive Design, Audio editing programs (i.e. Audacity), and Learning Management Systems (i.e. LearnUpon)
  • Experience with graphic design, video, micro-learning, responsive design, gamification, simulations, animation/motion graphics preferred CSS design with a good sense of visual communication.
  • Intermediate to advanced skill in Adobe Creative Cloud, Microsoft Office, HTML5 and CSS preferred.
  • Proven ability to manage projects
  • Impeccable written and verbal communication skills
  • High-level attention to detail and accuracy in execution of work and tasks

Position Summary:

Under the supervision of Drs. Packer & Ghahari, the instructional designer will be responsible for the translation of a face to face intervention to an online intervention, conducing a pilot test of the intervention, designing and deploying an online training program for therapists, and providing ongoing technical and pedagogical advice and support throughout the study. The instructional designer will use established instructional design principles and strategies, adult learning theory, and current best practices in online learning. 

Requirements:
  • Working collaboratively with researchers and occupational therapists, translate the content and delivery of an established seven-week, face-to-face group intervention for people with fatigue into an appealing, learner-centred, online intervention program.
  • Using the selected LMS, apply best practices in online learning to the design of all intervention content, including the redesign of learning activities typically delivered in a group format, and notifications to users and to occupational therapists involved in the program.
  • Create visually attractive and appealing, internet-based interface, paying particular attention to accessibility needs of the users (people living with neurological conditions).
  • Ensure "back-end" data is collected, compiled and exportable in a format that can be analyzed by researchers.
  • Assess appeal, usability, clinical utility and accessibility of the site from the perspective of both participants and therapists and produce analytics such as hit rate, bounce rate etc.
  • Work with colleagues to troubleshoot and solve course design and delivery problems with a focus on the use of educational technologies.

Qualifications:

Master's degree in education with focus on instructional design or educational technology (or equivalent) is essential. Two to five years professional experience in a related field, which includes instructional design, higher education teaching and learning, educational technology, or distributed education in higher education is essential. Experience in a health-related environment and/or working with people with chronic conditions or disabilities would be an asset.

THE OPPORTUNITY:

The Chang School of Continuing Education is seeking a Learning Experience Designer to support Continuing Education faculty and staff with the design and development of teaching and learning strategies for online and hybrid courses. 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Works collaboratively with the Digital Education Strategies (DES) team, instructors and faculty to develop, produce and deliver learning materials that apply the concepts of learning experience design theory and applications
  • Conducts needs analysis with subject matter experts using sound design principles to identify and define potential learning strategies and solutions
  • Consults, trains and serves as a resource person to the Academic Coordinators, SME, faculty members and external stakeholders in the design, development, evaluation and revision of courses, learning activities, learning assessments and online curriculum support
  • Recommends ways to add value to existing development and teaching; generates and shares ideas and best practices, to encourage SMEs to try new learning and teaching strategies that can enhance student learning.
  • Ensures that all design work is consistent with The Chang School brand and effective practices in the field of user-experience by working with DES team and faculty in the design, development, and evaluation of learning materials
  • Coordinates the acquisition of third-party content to be used in multiple courses as needed.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Completion of a post-graduate degree in Educational Technology, eLearning or a related field with a minimum of three (3) years of relevant work experience in learning experience design and digital media production is required
  • Must have demonstrated knowledge of different multimedia authoring tools and other learning experience development applications.
  • Must have experience with storyboarding and a good working knowledge of media design technology tools, including basic knowledge of HTML, CSS, Captive, Articulate, Photoshop, and video and audio editing.
  • Must have working knowledge of universal design principles to develop accessible and inclusive learning experiences
  • Demonstrated leadership and coaching skills to coach Subject Matter Experts (SMEs), faculty and instructors during course development and delivery and to provide ongoing support
  • Critical thinking skills with the ability to conduct needs analysis, identify potential challenges and recommend effective learning strategies to meet learner and stakeholder needs.
  • Excellent communication skills with the demonstrated ability to articulate the benefits of learning experience design principles for learning and teaching.
  • Well-developed written and presentation skills to compile and present research materials needed for meetings, workshops and relevant presentations.
  • Excellent organizational skills to coordinate all aspects of course development, ensure new courses and other elearning offerings are ready for delivery.
